The use of health savings accounts has exploded over the last decade, according to a new survey released by AHIP. Just over 20 million Americans had a health savings account last year. That's up from only 3.2 million a decade earlier. Plans that participated in the survey for both 2015 and 2016 added 648,000 HSA accounts last year — a 3.4 percent rate of growth. Two U.S. Senators have introduced legislation that would encourage further use of HSAs. Read the rest of the survey results here and the text of new legislation here.
